Grandpa & grandma rocks (Hin Ta & Hin Yai):
This is a must go place in Koh Samui.  See how nature makes grandpa rock and grandma rock, it's interesting.
we started from our hotel Resotel Kohsamui (south tip of Chaweng beach) and followed main road 4169 to drive about 20 minutes/ 13km. We actually passed 2 times when finding it. There is no clear road sign to direct you to grandpa scenic area from north but from south, there's a sign. We eventually saw other cars parking and knew we're already there.
Shame on us not spending time to find the grandma rock. After the trip, some ppl said it's even more interesting to see grandma rock than grandpa rock. ha. well...
Mummified Monk temple:
from grandpa rock, continue down to the south road on road 4169, it takes only 3 km, a few minutes to mummified monk. I did not get have a very close look at the mummified monk in the clear transparent cabin. I respect the story as it has become a local legend. The story: there is this guy who was born in a prosperous family and he decided to become a monk at his fifty. He was famous for his mediation and his ability to foresee his own death. He passed away at 79 yrs old. His family and disciples followed his before life instruction to store his body in a upright position within a casket as a symbol to pass on Buddhist spirit.
W hotel:
I strongly recommend to visit W hotel if you visit Koh Samui (in fact,Thanks for my colleague YaHan's recommendation prior to my trip in Koh Samui). The scenery is really breathtaking. Worthy to relax a afternoon here, enjoy a cocktail or a beer, just enjoy the quietness and spectacular view. On our visit day, there's only a few guests like us at the lobby so it's relatively easy to take a nice picture with a clear background.
Our spending at W:
It cost a leg and arm to stay over night at W hotel so we chose to have an afternoon drink there. Drinks are within reasonable price...well, still much more expensive than regular bars in koh samui, but, hey, this is a 5 class hotel! spend a drink and you get to see the view rather than pay ~24,000 baht a night, good deal, isn't it?! :). Passion fruit mojito is ~350 baht, Espresso Shakerato is ~200, warm brownie & ice cream is ~250 baht.
How to get to W:
W is located at the north part of Koh Samui. If by car, according to GPS, probably takes 15 mins drive from busy central Chaweng center (if no traffic).
When almost arrive W, the road is quite narrow and undeveloped, it's a rough ride even on Jeep. Please be very cautious and be slow for safety when you go in the road to W. I saw workers were doing some road construction, maybe the road will become even and smooth later. I hope so, and good luck! :)
Transportation fee: (REMINDER: please do not drink and drive!! )
We rent a Jeep for 700 baht/day plus gas ~300 baht to look around the island in Sep, 2013, you could also rent a moped which is around 150-300 baht/day (depending the power and model) and purchase gas at 100 baht (cheaper to just buy bottle gas from the moped store, 3 bottles for 100 baht).
Be there in person, it is ten times better than seeing the picture here. ;)
Tips:
It's really cheap to buy data service in Thailand, so go buy one to your mobile phone (~100 baht is good to use if mainly browse the information). Then, with the Google map GPS thing, it will guide you where you wanna go. Of course, go get a traditional paper map as well!
By the way, we did not visit water fall and big Buddha in this trip because we had been to Bangkok for many Buddha temples. From pictures of recent tourists of others, the water fall in Koh Samui is not that impressive size and spectacular so we also skip this place.
