崗卡章賞鳥記 4/4: 住宿心得 Baan Maka Chalet

從華欣開車約1小時10分鐘後, 駛進了樹蔭隱蔽的小路, 司機問"這裡應該就是飯店吧?" 但是, 沒見著"櫃台". 車子繞一下, 我們也沒看到任何人出來打招呼. 還記得第一天入住時, 計程車司機的反應...
司機: "你們確定要住這裡?" "一個人都沒有啊?" "你們錢付了嗎?" "我等你們, 你們下車看看, 如果不要住這裡, 我可以載你們去另一邊的飯店, 比這裡好多了!" "我自己泰國人, 我不會想住這裡的." "這裡好像什麼都沒有啊!" 的確, 地點稍微偏僻了, 但愈接近大自然, 都市人需要一些時間適應. 行前, 我看過 Baan Maka Chalet 的照片, 對我而言, 沒有太大的驚訝. 哦, 不, 其實, 我蠻驚訝的, 當我一下車, 飛來飛去的蝴蝶吸引住我的目光, 我不自覺地就跟隨著蝴蝶. (2017年8月起, 新經理人在住宿外, 新置了一個 Baan Maka Nature Lodge的立牌)
過了一會兒, 看到一個男的, 司機問他, 這裡是 Baan Maka Chalet嗎? 男的答覆是的. 我下車, 想告知男子我們有訂房, 但男子不懂英文, 因此, 透過司機和男子說我們有訂房. 男子隨後帶來位女子, 女子翻查了手上的簿子, 搖搖頭.
看樣子, 我們並沒有被登記到入房. 怎麼可能呢?? 司機問我們, 你們真的是訂這一間嗎? 我回答, 是啊, 我一個半月前就用e-mail 和經理人聯絡的. 這種小飯店, 又不用先付訂金的地方, 我怕他們忘了我們的訂房, 出發到泰國的前兩天我還特地發e-mail通知會如期到達. 何況, 今天早上出門前, 還打電話詢問這裡有沒有啤酒. 我秀出電話紀錄, 問男子早上和我們通話的人是誰. 男子說那是他們老闆, 但老闆外出中. 接著男子帶我們去一間準備好的房間. 過一會兒, 老闆回來了, 也確定我們確實有訂房. 我猜, 和我通e-mail的人好像不是我這幾天在飯店聊的經理人, 可能是他太太? 因為e mail上的人名和經理人名字不同. 聽說這裡是一對夫妻經營的...後來, 也沒多時間再問. 幾天住期, 都只見男主人, 最後一天要離開前有看到好像是老婆的女子出現.
對此次住宿算滿意, 和想像中的差不多, 未來會考慮再入住. 只有惱人的螞蟻令人感到不悅. 整理了此行Baan Maka Chalet 住宿心得. 供有心人參考.

房 間
我們選住的是 Chalet 2, 雙人房, 看起來是由兩張單人床合成一張大床. 官網上還有其他房型像是兩間房間併在一起, 或是家庭式的多房間. 我比較想要獨立的單間房, 所以寫信時直接問能不能訂 Chalet 2.實際上的房間比官網上照片看到的漂亮、舒服.
有冷氣. 但吹風方向不好調整, 直吹床頭, 而床單蠻單薄的, 睡時覺得太冷. 冷氣若調小, 整間房又覺得稍熱…不過, 一天出門很累, 還是很快睡著. (2017年8月後, 新經理人將購入新床單)
房內僅天花板有一盞照明燈, 偏暗. 但每天一早出門, 晚上回來後在用餐區吃飯, 再回房已準備洗澡睡覺, 也不太在意昏暗的燈光了. (2017年8月後, 新經理人將添置讀書燈)
沒有冰箱. 對有安排出門賞鳥人而言, 也用不太到冰箱, 不是問題.
Chalet 2 因為距離用餐區近, 手機偶爾可以接收到用餐區的 wifi 上網.
房內除了床, 有一張休息椅、一長片鏡子、 一個長桌、一個晒衣架、和一個直式的掛衣架. 床旁邊有行李擺置桌.
每天會換新的大浴巾.
沒有吹風機, 可向Baan Maka 人員借, 但我都忘記…天氣乾燥, 大概半小時一小時讓長頭髮自然乾也行.
房外有兩張休息椅. 不過, 覺得蚊蟲稍多, 不太想坐外面.
沒有保險櫃 (通常這個價位的住宿是沒有保險櫃的).
整體算乾淨… 只是, 螞蟻很多! 每次剛整理好的房間, 過了一會兒, 床上就會有一些黑色螞蟻, 因為集中在床尾, 感覺像是從天花板上的燈罩處掉下來的, … 地上也有一些螞蟻. 廁所外的腳踏墊上有黑黑的螞蟻. 走起來有點心裡不舒服. 這是唯一令人討厭的地方! 希望Baan Maka 能想想辧杜絕這些螞蟻入房. (新經人說, 由於這裡有不少野生動物和昆蟲, 擔心使有化學性質的噴劑會傷害自然界的昆蟲等, 因此不會做全面性的滅蟲/蟻, 但是, 會使用殺蟻誘餌, 希望能慢慢地清除螞蟻在建築內的構巢.)
不知道是我多想還是耳朵太敏感, 總覺得半夜聽到窗外有走動的聲音. 我不是說鬼, 猜測是動物吧, 但我好累, 也少了那點勇氣起床查看. 看到這裡, 請別被我這段話嚇到, 這裡算是安全的.
衛 浴
房間Chalet 2 附私人衛浴室. 整體算乾淨. 備有洗髮精和沐浴乳
淋浴設備, 洗熱水澡沒問題, 水量也算充足, 不會忽冷忽熱. 而洗臉台有冷水但沒有熱水.
不得不敬佩在此遇到的中國組夫妻檔, 雖然他們英文能力有限, 但做足功課, 很有勇氣地來此自助賞鳥. 有他們在的住宿期間, 交換意見, 聊聊天蠻有趣的.
雖然菜單上的選擇不算多, 口味還不錯! 最喜歡的是炸雞 fried salty chicken, 不像一般外賣的炸雞有裹粉, 但炸的火候剛剛好, 很適合搭配啤酒!
早餐有免費的吐司和烤麵包機可用. 也可點菜單上的早餐, 但選擇只有 美式、泰式碎肉粥 和 煎蛋加飯. (將增加菜單上的輪替菜色, 每隔幾天換菜單; 也會設置小的購物區販售零食和T-shirt)
隨時可使用熱水壺沖泡 免費的咖啡包、茶包及熱可可小粉包.
餐點費用合理,一盤菜大概是80-120泰銖, 有肉有魚的話費用再貴一點. 實際價格忘了, 也忘了拍照菜單. 菜單有泰文版、英文版, 還有中文版! 可見這裡有不少中文訪客.
啤酒價格合理, 750 ml 的冰涼啤酒只要75泰銖! 提供有冰凍過的啤酒杯,用很冰的杯子喝適量的啤酒很快地就能沖銷疲憊的一天, 讓臉上出現滿足的笑容.
用餐區有一隻臉很沮喪但感覺很忠誠很卑微的黃狗. 牠不會對住民吠叫, 只會在旁邊用有點憂鬱的眼神看著你吃東西, 感覺蠻乖巧. 但是, 不知道有沒有人幫牠洗澡, 常常看到牠抓癢, 可能不是很乾淨, 就不太敢摸牠. 相對於經理人寵愛的另外兩隻毛毛澎鬆的狗狗, 黃狗顯得很失志啊. (2017年8月後, 黃狗搬家了)
另外, 值得一提的是, 用餐區有一個書架, 擺設了很多圖文並茂的鳥集參考書. 我沒有帶任何書, 因此出門時外借一本, 非常受用. 出發賞鳥前, 翻一下, 臨時對我的腦袋圖庫充電. 回到飯店時, 也可比對看看自己看到了什麼鳥.
用餐區前方有設置幾個吸引鳥來的食物區.
我看見Hornbills犀鳥會出現吃香蕉;
Sunbirds太陽鳥會出現在天堂鳥玩耍;
漂亮的 Pitta八色鳥和 White-rumped shama白腰鵲鴝會出現吃準備好的蟲蟲.
提到八色鳥, 讓我想到最後一天要離開的一早, 我問經理人, 我想要去附近的搭棚子的鳥棚看鳥, 但我還沒看到這裡的Pitta 八色鳥, 經理人建議我留在這裡看Pitta, 因為附近的搭棚也是不能保證能看到鳥或什麼鳥. 他很有信心地Pitta一定會在我10點半離開前出現. 的確, 我從早上6點開始等候, 7點半左右有Pitta來訪, 停留不久, 然後大概再隔一小時又會出現. 猜測我第一天抵達的下午沒看見Pitta出現的原因是: 我一直佔據著牠會出現的地方看蝴蝶!! 我沒看到真的是我的不對! 我在牠們會出現的地方一直繞圈圈, 牠們一定不敢出現.... 好在, 最後一天上午等著見八色鳥時, 有中國組夫妻檔提示我的相機可能架得太近了, 因為Pitta很害羞的, 最好離遠一點, 牠們才會出現. 因此, 我移動了位置, 耐心地等待牠們出現. 果然, 牠們出現了! 讓這次住宿留下漂亮的章節!
有一大片開滿 荷花的大池塘區, 隨處可見蜻蜓. 經理人說在池塘區可能看到kingfishers, 但是, 我沒緣看見. 後來問了經理人, 他說有出現的話, 距離也滿遠的…
用餐區到池塘之間的大片草地上可見十幾隻犀鳥吃果子. 礙於此行在飯店的時間有限, 我無緣一次看到十幾隻的犀鳥, 是中國夫妻告訴我的. 不過, 我看到犀鳥快速地喙走一根香蕉; 第一天傍晚在經理人指引下看到幾隻犀鳥在樹上; 最後一天離開前, 也看到了幾隻犀鳥在大草地遠方的樹上跳來跳去.
我看過遊客分享夜晚在此區遇見貓頭鷹, 但我不知道我有沒有那麼幸運能遇到, 也不知道牠們出現在哪裡、多晚才出現. 我後來是付錢請鳥導特別帶我去看鄰區的貓頭鷹.
最後一天在用餐區的廁所門外發現了一條蛇! …. 但他們說那條蛇不會咬人的(大概是指咬人也不會死人的吧).
很喜歡這裡木頭的造景和木製的桌椅, 非常有原始味、大自然的風格.
附近沒有超市、市場或商店
經理人不太會特別招呼住宿客. 大概是採取像家人式的自由自在式的管理? 有時候, 我希望經理人熱情一點, 主動提供多一點的訊息, 或者, 在check in時, 介紹一下整體環境.
不過, 有任何問題的話, 透過不會說泰文的工作人員, 也可以找到經理人, 就問 “Boss(老闆呢)??” 我曾以為房內冷氣壞了, 工作人員聽不懂, 就會請出經理人來講. 雖然說經理人好像沒那麼熱情, 但出現時, 還是會問候我們一下, 有問題問他, 他也是盡能力回答.
網頁有以前的遊客寫下於2008年時來住時的完整介紹和價格. 上面的價格應該是舊價格. 官網有很多環境的照片.
簡易雨衣: 我們也買了, 約15-20泰銖, 以便不時之需. 還好, 運氣不錯, 沒有碰到下雨.
望遠鏡, 單純賞鳥的, 當然要帶! 有時, 鳥在數十公尺外, 沒有望遠鏡是看不到的.
相機: 如果對拍攝鳥有興趣的話, 我覺得鏡頭至少也要有400 mm. 我用的相機是APS-C, 鏡頭焦距會變成 1.6倍, 如此有640 mm焦距, 即使有了 640mm , 還是常常覺得蠻難拍到鳥的, 因為很多鳥都高棲於樹上或者常得有距離地觀賞(想走近, 會怕鳥飛走).
水: 公園內並不是走一走就有便利商店. 只有兩個露營區可買水, 請記得自己帶水.
喜愛鳥類的人好像都是走簡易路線, 所以, 行李準備中, 最重的就是相機設備, 其他儘量從簡, 不會帶太多東西. 對於住宿, 首選方便觀鳥的地點, 只要住宿點乾淨整潔, 了解住宿條件通常不會太好, 不會特別挑剔.通常, 以賞鳥為主題的住宿地方, 不走高級飯店路線, 因為這些點距離都市偏遠, 住宿對象通常就是專門來賞鳥的, 一般人也不太會想來住吧, 因此, 不會花太大的建設經費...
住宿期間, 有緣和另一組中國夫妻聊, 妻說他帶老公來住時, 老公的反應是這是什麼樣的地方啊. 大概和我老公的反應差不多, 也是送我們來的司機的反應. 只有我們這些行前努力做好功課的老婆覺得這樣的地方和找的資料是一致的, 沒有那麼大的反應.
我本人是很愛乾淨的, 對於飯店的清潔度是可接受. 大概是為了賞鳥, 也已預期自己將進入一個沒有太多現代化設備的地方, 不會有"這是什麼鳥地方"的反應. 事實上, 我覺得這裡比起一些 budget cheap 飯店可能還好一點呢.
查住宿時, 我也看到一家 Samarn Bird Camp, 據說距離公園更近, 而價位和 Baan Maka Chalet差不多, 官網上的住宿環境也似乎不錯, 但網路上可查到的英文資料少很多, 只有Tripadvisor有英文review, 看完之後, 有人提到不太愉快的看鳥經驗, 加上, Google Map 沒有這一家的地址可看, 我選擇了 Baan Maka. Chalet. 住宿期間, 第一天到時和第二天只有我們這一組和中國組客人入住. 第三天多了臨時路過來住過夜的情侶、 一組原籍南非但在曼谷工作的夫妻檔, 和 一組新加坡3人小團. 可見 Baan Maka Chalet 蠻有穩定訪客的, 是Kaeng Krachan 公園附近知名的賞鳥住宿首選.
如果說, 我覺得 Baan Maka 只有經理人會說英文是 Baan Maka的缺點之一, 那麼, Samarn 是根本沒有人會說上三句英文, 住宿和鳥導方面可能更加劇語言上的隔閡和誤解.

1. Arrival/reception
We have added an English language sign outside the front gate "Baan Maka Nature Lodge" to the existing Thai language sign. We have a large property with only 14 rooms so we can not have a reception area which is manned full time. We will hang a bell next to the car park which can be heard all over the property. There will also be a sign showing our phone number.
2. Ants
Keeping ants away from the buildings is difficult. We can not bring in pest control people because they use methods and poisons which are indiscriminate killers of other wildlife including the geckos and butterflies. We are putting down specific ant poison which the ants take back to the nest. This should stop ants nesting near the rooms and reduce the number of visits by foraging ants.
3. Beds
The current system is that of an under sheet, top sheet and blanket. We have ordered "summer duvets" and some nice duvet covers so the new system will use an under sheet and a duvet.
5. Language
My English is conversational and I have employed a general manager who speaks some English and Chinese. She will be the main point of contact for the customers and will usually be around the restaurant area at meal times.
There are only two outlets at room and we borrowed the power strip from the staff to charge our phones, camera batteries, and computers.
4. Rooms/Lighting/Power
We are upgrading the rooms a little to add reading lamps near the beds and more power points.
There is a book shelf at dining area that holds many birding books. I borrowed one when I went birding, very useful! When I returned home I even order my own book for future reference.
6. Wifi
We have talked to every provider in the province but as yet have not managed to find a way to turn our weak phone signal into a useable wifi system in the rooms. For now we will have to stick with wifi in the restaurant area only. We will install a computer near the restaurant so that guests can get online and send emails. We will continue to work on improving the wifi reception.
7. Restaurant
We are updating our menu to add Thai regional dishes on a rotation system. One area of Thailand will be represented on a daily basis offering 2-3 dishes from that region. We also hope to add a couple of western dishes for those who would like a change from Thai food.
8. Dog
Dton, the restaurant dog did look somewhat sad but was very old and friendly. He is no longer with us and the ex-manager has taken his dogs with him.
There is a yellow dog sitting at dining area. The dog is well behaved, does not bark at strangers, very gentle but looks very sad… I wanted to pat the dog when he looked up me with begging eyes but he always scratches and smells a little so I didn’t. Compared to the owner’s other two fluffy clean happy dogs, this one looks very upset. I hope they take care of this yellow dog more….
9. Shop
We will open a small shop onsite selling snacks, T-shirts, batteries and other photography accessories.
溝 通
只有經理人(老闆)會說英文, 其他人只會泰文, 不會說英文. (新經理人會說英文、中文)不得不敬佩在此遇到的中國組夫妻檔, 雖然他們英文能力有限, 但做足功課, 很有勇氣地來此自助賞鳥. 有他們在的住宿期間, 交換意見, 聊聊天蠻有趣的.
充 電
來住宿的人除了手機、電腦, 通常還有攝影器材需要充電. 房內有兩處插座. 可向工作人員借多孔電源延長線(power strip). 用餐區也有插座可充電. (房內將增加充電插座)用餐區及Wifi
原則上, 整個住宿區只有用餐區提供 wifi. 所以, 起床後, 沒有安排出門找鳥的人通常都在用餐區用手機、電腦上網. 手機收訊在整個住宿區都很差, 無法撥打號碼. 如果想聯絡沒有使用wifi的家人, 行前最好辧一個skype通話, 如此可透過 wifi 撥打電話. 回曼谷市區
原先想在回曼谷的路上停Phetchaburi遊玩一下, 經理人報價3,500泰銖, 一路上有約2小時的觀光時間. 後來我們改變行程, 約了送我們來的司機公司, 直接回曼谷, 因為之前已有幾天和司機公司合作, 收費有小小的折扣. 猜測從Baan Maka到曼谷市區的合理費用是2,600-2,800泰銖.行前準備 (完全以初級者的角度來講😹)
泰國的防蚊液: 必備! 來住之前, 務必先在泰國便利超商買粉紅字樣瓶裝, 約75泰銖. 泰國版的防蚊液真的蠻有用的. 野外蚊子不少. 在飯店或公園內靜靜著等鳥出現時, 防蚊液可有效減少蚊子叮咬.簡易雨衣: 我們也買了, 約15-20泰銖, 以便不時之需. 還好, 運氣不錯, 沒有碰到下雨.
望遠鏡, 單純賞鳥的, 當然要帶! 有時, 鳥在數十公尺外, 沒有望遠鏡是看不到的.
相機: 如果對拍攝鳥有興趣的話, 我覺得鏡頭至少也要有400 mm. 我用的相機是APS-C, 鏡頭焦距會變成 1.6倍, 如此有640 mm焦距, 即使有了 640mm , 還是常常覺得蠻難拍到鳥的, 因為很多鳥都高棲於樹上或者常得有距離地觀賞(想走近, 會怕鳥飛走).
水: 公園內並不是走一走就有便利商店. 只有兩個露營區可買水, 請記得自己帶水.
喜愛鳥類的人好像都是走簡易路線, 所以, 行李準備中, 最重的就是相機設備, 其他儘量從簡, 不會帶太多東西. 對於住宿, 首選方便觀鳥的地點, 只要住宿點乾淨整潔, 了解住宿條件通常不會太好, 不會特別挑剔.通常, 以賞鳥為主題的住宿地方, 不走高級飯店路線, 因為這些點距離都市偏遠, 住宿對象通常就是專門來賞鳥的, 一般人也不太會想來住吧, 因此, 不會花太大的建設經費...
住宿期間, 有緣和另一組中國夫妻聊, 妻說他帶老公來住時, 老公的反應是這是什麼樣的地方啊. 大概和我老公的反應差不多, 也是送我們來的司機的反應. 只有我們這些行前努力做好功課的老婆覺得這樣的地方和找的資料是一致的, 沒有那麼大的反應.
我本人是很愛乾淨的, 對於飯店的清潔度是可接受. 大概是為了賞鳥, 也已預期自己將進入一個沒有太多現代化設備的地方, 不會有"這是什麼鳥地方"的反應. 事實上, 我覺得這裡比起一些 budget cheap 飯店可能還好一點呢.
查住宿時, 我也看到一家 Samarn Bird Camp, 據說距離公園更近, 而價位和 Baan Maka Chalet差不多, 官網上的住宿環境也似乎不錯, 但網路上可查到的英文資料少很多, 只有Tripadvisor有英文review, 看完之後, 有人提到不太愉快的看鳥經驗, 加上, Google Map 沒有這一家的地址可看, 我選擇了 Baan Maka. Chalet. 住宿期間, 第一天到時和第二天只有我們這一組和中國組客人入住. 第三天多了臨時路過來住過夜的情侶、 一組原籍南非但在曼谷工作的夫妻檔, 和 一組新加坡3人小團. 可見 Baan Maka Chalet 蠻有穩定訪客的, 是Kaeng Krachan 公園附近知名的賞鳥住宿首選.
如果說, 我覺得 Baan Maka 只有經理人會說英文是 Baan Maka的缺點之一, 那麼, Samarn 是根本沒有人會說上三句英文, 住宿和鳥導方面可能更加劇語言上的隔閡和誤解.
Kaeng Krachan National Park. Accommodation Baan Maka Chalet Review
Our taxi driver thought we were conned to stay here as there was no front desk, no single person present when we arrived, he said we might have been fooled and let us check surroundings if we decided to stay or he would take us to a better hotel. XD. Well, I enjoy my stay here! Though it is not perfect, definitely not a modern well equipped hotel. Some goods and bads, hope this help you create a picture of what's like to stay at Baan Maka.(From August, 2017, Baan Maka Chalet is changed to a name 'Baan Maka Nature Lodge' under new management! Quite a few changes will be made to improve the staying qulity, see the following red writings, the response from new manager. She replied my comment on Tripadvisor!)
1. Arrival/reception
We have added an English language sign outside the front gate "Baan Maka Nature Lodge" to the existing Thai language sign. We have a large property with only 14 rooms so we can not have a reception area which is manned full time. We will hang a bell next to the car park which can be heard all over the property. There will also be a sign showing our phone number.
Room:
It is clean but many ants soon come into the room. Ants were seen on the bed and floor. Somehow it looks like the ants fell off from the ceiling light as they concentrated at the bed end just beneath the light. The ants are really the only issue I dislike during our stay and it was very annoying for my husband. We stayed at chalet 2, air-conditioned room looks nicer than post on their web page. Bed is ok, bed blanket is a thin sheet. Only a ceiling light at room that makes the room a bit dark at night, not much problem as we went out for birding from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and most of time stayed at dinning area to read, use wifi, to eat, the only time we stayed at room was to shower and sleep. No refrigerator. No safe (budget room don't usually offer anyway). Besides a bed, there is a chair, a long wall mirror, a long table, a clothes stand, a wooden clothes drying stand, and luggage table. New towels every day. Two lovely chairs at lanai but did not use much because of insects.2. Ants
Keeping ants away from the buildings is difficult. We can not bring in pest control people because they use methods and poisons which are indiscriminate killers of other wildlife including the geckos and butterflies. We are putting down specific ant poison which the ants take back to the nest. This should stop ants nesting near the rooms and reduce the number of visits by foraging ants.
3. Beds
The current system is that of an under sheet, top sheet and blanket. We have ordered "summer duvets" and some nice duvet covers so the new system will use an under sheet and a duvet.
Bathroom and Shower:
Clean toilet. Shampoo and shower lotion provided. Hot shower no problem, good shower water flow, temperature consistent. No hot water at basin.Communication:
Only the manager speaks English, other staffs speak only Thai.5. Language
My English is conversational and I have employed a general manager who speaks some English and Chinese. She will be the main point of contact for the customers and will usually be around the restaurant area at meal times.
Power Charging:
There are only two outlets at room and we borrowed the power strip from the staff to charge our phones, camera batteries, and computers.4. Rooms/Lighting/Power
We are upgrading the rooms a little to add reading lamps near the beds and more power points.
Dining area and WIFI:
Only dining area provides WIFI. There is almost no mobile reception and cannot make a phone call out. Suggest to inform your family at home that you might be out of reach if family do not use wifi. Not many choices for dining choices but food generally tastes good, our favorite is fried salty chicken, it is not salty as named suggested, it is perfectly fried, not whole chicken thigh but small chopped chunks, no heavy flour batter, great with cold beers. And, yes, they give you a nicely freezing cold mug for beer that’s 70 bahts for 750ml. Each dining order probably costs 80-120 bahts, more expensive with meats/fish/shrimp. Hot water bottle with 24 hours free instant coffee, milo, tea bags.There is a book shelf at dining area that holds many birding books. I borrowed one when I went birding, very useful! When I returned home I even order my own book for future reference.
6. Wifi
We have talked to every provider in the province but as yet have not managed to find a way to turn our weak phone signal into a useable wifi system in the rooms. For now we will have to stick with wifi in the restaurant area only. We will install a computer near the restaurant so that guests can get online and send emails. We will continue to work on improving the wifi reception.
7. Restaurant
We are updating our menu to add Thai regional dishes on a rotation system. One area of Thailand will be represented on a daily basis offering 2-3 dishes from that region. We also hope to add a couple of western dishes for those who would like a change from Thai food.
8. Dog
Dton, the restaurant dog did look somewhat sad but was very old and friendly. He is no longer with us and the ex-manager has taken his dogs with him.
Breakfast:
Free toast and instant coffee, milo. We wanted a better breakfast for good energy birding, ordered from menu, limited to American style with cheese/ham/sausage/, Thai rice soup with minced pork or chicken, fried eggs with rice.There is a yellow dog sitting at dining area. The dog is well behaved, does not bark at strangers, very gentle but looks very sad… I wanted to pat the dog when he looked up me with begging eyes but he always scratches and smells a little so I didn’t. Compared to the owner’s other two fluffy clean happy dogs, this one looks very upset. I hope they take care of this yellow dog more….
Setting and bird watching at site:
First impression is butterflies lead my way! There are a few bird feeders set in front of dining area. I saw Hornbill grabbing banana, Pitta and white rumped shama eating warms, and sunbird playing around Bird of Paradise plants. There is a big pond full of beautiful lotus, and many butterflies and dragonflies. An open grass field that might attract hornbills to eat nuts on ground. Hornbills are also seen on trees. The manager/owner said possible to see Kingfishers at pond but I did not find them during my short stay. However, we saw kingfishers resting on overhead power lines, probably a mile away outside of hotel, on the way to National Park in early morning. I think there are other birds here but I mostly spent time outside and did not have enough time to diligently looking for other birds. Overall, very nature, nice wooden furniture. No market, no convenient stores nearby.Laundry service:
We had a big bag of clothes for laundry service (2 people 6 days summer clothes), cost 200 bahts.Bird guide service:
Offered through the manager. We pre-booked a bird guide before arrival. Service satisfying.9. Shop
We will open a small shop onsite selling snacks, T-shirts, batteries and other photography accessories.
