Maeklong Railway Market. eat.EAT.eat.Explore (2013.9.29)

(THERE is another video featuring the train going through the market)

HOW to VISIT, COST, Travel Time:
take BTS to Victory Monument Station, get out from Exit 4 and walk straight only 1-2 mins, you will find the Mini Van Bus Station at left hand side where sells ticket to Maeklong for 70 baht/person. The mini van ride is a little over 1 hour. The mini van will be departed when they collect enough people. So, if you're lucky, you will get on the bus in just a few minutes when you get your ticket or you may need to wait a little while (but should not wait over 20-30 mins I think).
Try the food at Maeklong Railway Market:
while waiting for the train, we walked around the market to see Thailand specific products & tried some yummy local street snacks: sweet treat such as wonton-like a mouthful bite wrap but instead of meat inside, it's coconut mixed fried garlic & sugar; crispy egg roll cookies; some fruits; POPULAR & Delicious Thailand 'Kuay Jub'- Thailand intestine noodle soup that is soy sauce-like flavored soup with egg, intestines, rice noodles, fried tofu, etc. And then, of course, we had our Thailand lunch in the market. During the lunch, there're 2 guys (random street performers?) playing guitar and singing across the small restaurant, a little entertainment added while waiting (we gave some tips to them).
REMINDER:
sweat a lot SO STAY HYDRATED! it's usually hot in Thailand. we did NOT find any air-conditioned restaurant around the Maeklong market. The only place that has air condition is the 7-11. So, remember to drink water. :) There is a pay toilet in the market (5 baht) so don't panic if you feel like to go.
AFTER the 'train show': if you visit at the weekend like us, you could take a Tuk-Tuk car to Amphawa floating market for the weekend shopping (about 15 mins away and about 150 baht for a ride).
